Hydrocodone is used to treat moderate pain to severe pain, It is combined with an opioid pain reliever (hydrocodone) and a non-opioid pain reliever (acetaminophen). Hydrocodone is called an opioid (narcotic) analgesic in a class of medications. Hydrocodone changes how the brain and central nervous system respond to pain. It stimulates receptors on nerves in the brain to increase the threshold of pain and reduce the perception of pain. 

 

Uses of Hydrocodone:

Hydrocodone is used as a Nasal Congestion Reliever, Relief from Visceral Pain, Pain reliever (treats moderate physical pain to severe), and Cough suppressant.

Side Effects of Hydrocodone:

The common and serious side effects of hydrocodone are as Lightheadedness, Dizziness, Constipation, Vomiting, Nausea, Seizure, Trouble breathing, Allergic reaction, difficulty urinating, Tiredness, Slow heart rate or weak pulse, Low cortisol levels, Agitation, Hallucination, Sweating, Shivering, Fainting, Bladder pain, Swelling on the face, arms, hands, legs or feet, Cough, Rapid Weight Gain, Unusual weight gain or loss.

Dosage

Hydrocodone is swallowed by mouth with water, you can take it with or without food.The Dosage of Hydrocodone is based on the medical condition and response to treatment, The dosage is based on the weight in children.

The Dosage of Adults is 10mg orally every 12 hours. The dosage will be increased every 12 hours as needed to control pain.

Precautions

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history before taking hydrocodone. Especially, if you have brain disorders, breathing problems, liver disease, kidney disease, Mood disorder, stomach intestinal problems, gallbladder disease, or disease of the pancreas.

  • Avoid Alcohol, it makes you dizzy or drowsy. Don’t drive or also don’t do such activity which requires more alertness. 

  • If you have diabetes, alcohol dependence, liver disease, or other diseases, Avoid liquid products that have sugar and alcohol.

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist, if you have any kind of allergies because these medications contain some inactive ingredients which cause allergic reactions or other problems.

  • Don’t take this medication during pregnancy it can harm an unborn baby, Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while taking this medication.
