The Early Days of HRM in the UAE
When it was in the initial stages of the growth of the UAE HR processes were simple and predominantly administrative. Employers focused on hiring workers to fill positions, without much importance placed on the longer-term workforce planning or engagement of employees.
At the time the focus was not as much on Training and Development, as job responsibilities were typically assigned according to the immediate requirement rather than expansion or aligning skills. The traditional HR methods were the norm and had little strategic involvement.
The Shift to Strategic HRM
While the UAE economy grew, specifically in the fields of construction, oil and gas as well as finance, companies recognized that they required more than just a staff, they required a pipeline of talent. It was a transition from the traditional HR model to HR consulting-driven strategies that focused on expansion, scaling, as well as sustainability.
The era of the '60s introduced:
- Professional IT recruitment and staffing Services
- Long-term Workforce Planning
- Frameworks to start to Talent Solutions
- Strategies for employee engagement that focus on the individual
